We were founded in 1992 by, artist and writer, Diane Welvering, and have been located in Pretoria East ever since. Diane, in collaboration with her daughter, Michelle, work extremely hard to help cultivate the inner artist in all students who visit The Art Room. Using a variety of mediums in our well-equipped studio, we offer workshops and classes to enhance the creative spark and spirit in everyone. “I wish I could draw” is something that we have heard many people say. You can draw! You just need the right guidance, sound tuition, and comprehensive exposure to the world of art-making. At The Art Room we facilitate your ability to draw and develop creative skills that will help you discover your own hidden talent and creative style. Drawing styles vary greatly. No two people draw in the same way. Just as everyone has their own handwriting, they also have their own signature style of drawing and we will help you discover this whilst learning sound techniques. Each creative soul needs to be true to themselves and we feel that it is most important to recognise this fact. An individual might relate to one medium better than another, so we feel that providing a facility where multiple disciplines are offered is most important to an artist’s development and creative journey.

We believe that there is an artist within all of us, it just needs to be awakened. Every artist needs an adequate space in which to create, and that space should inspire and support their creative process.
